The townscape is characterized by several large fires and subsequent reconstruction. In 1609, 90% of the buildings burned down. The church, three houses directly behind it with a Gothic structure and the Hummelshaus next to the Schabhof have been preserved to this day. The town houses behind the church are therefore among the oldest secular buildings still in existence in southern Thuringia.
