Among the various neo-Gothic churches built in Málaga at the end of the 19th century, the Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón is the only one built in the old town that belonged to the Jesuit order.

It was built by the architect F. Guerrero Strachan, who took Toledo Cathedral as a model. He incorporated Islamic elements that made them more Hispanic, although the churches of Burgos and the monastery of Las Huelgas also served as inspiration for the architect.

Hiking

The Church of the Sacred Heart was built in the 17th century. For a long time it was under the control of the Jesuit order and depended on the church of San Pedro. It was used as a warehouse until a cloistered order took it over.
