The stones on the border are the result of sculptural symposia. The first took place in 1986 on the initiative of the Merzig sculptor Paul Schneider. In the meantime, 34 artistically worked stones by sculptors from numerous nations are lying on the approximately 4km long route to the French towns of Launstroff and Waldwisse. The very special landmarks have international understanding on the subject. The Menhirs de l'Europe form, so to speak, the German-French counterpart to the northern Saarland street of sculptures.

From the Gauhöhen you have a wonderful view of the countryside over there and over, Saarland and Lorraine. Always on the 14th and 15th of August, the Grenzlandfest takes place here. The stimulating sculpture trail in the harmonious natural landscape is part of the extensive bike and hiking trails of Merzig and referred to as the Gustav-Regler-Wanderweg.

Stones on the Border – Montenach Art Trail

A cross-border sculpture trail with 34 sandstone works by international artists – initiated in 1986 by Paul Schneider. Each stone tells of peace, friendship, and cultural dialogue between France and Saarland.

        Tip:

Follow the path along the ridge above Montenach and enjoy the combination of art, landscape, and distant views. Stop at each work – for a photo, a story, or a moment of reflection. And: Binoculars help you spot details from a distance!
