This statue in the port of Kaleici, Antalya, depicts a captain named Mustafa Ekizler, who lived here between 1905 and 2000. Mustafa is famous for his presence at "numerous events", including the 1919–21 Italian occupation and the Turkish-Greek exchange. He made his living from the sea for 85 years, but is best known for his testimonies and is considered a symbol of the region's turbulent history.
The bronze dove on the captain's shoulder is also interesting. What better way to prevent pigeons from pooping on your monument than by pointing out that the job is already taken ;-)
