Hiking

The construction of the Stationsstraat between the Stapelpoort and the station building (1882) was the first important urban expansion in the 19th century. Stylistically, the buildings form a unity, which is also supported in terms of material technology. However, the houses differ from each other by their individual finish and by the varied detailing in building elements, derived from different styles. Initially, Renaissance forms predominated, later preference was given to neo-Gothic formal language. The corner houses with tower constructions still form striking accents in the street scene.
