Yes, the dedicated multi-use path on the northbound span is generally suitable for families with children and strollers. It's a flat, paved surface, offering a safe environment for a leisurely stroll. However, be mindful of cyclists who also use the path and ensure children stay to one side. Are dogs allowed on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge path?

While the bridge path is a public access area, it's always best to check local regulations regarding pets on shared paths. If dogs are permitted, they should always be kept on a leash, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them. Given the shared nature of the path with cyclists and pedestrians, ensuring your dog is well-behaved and under control is crucial for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

What are the parking options for visitors wanting to walk or cycle the Gold Star Memorial Bridge?

Access points to the multi-use path are available on both sides of the bridge. On the Groton side, you can access it from Bridge Street and Riverview Avenue. On the New London side, access is available from Williams Street. While there isn't dedicated parking directly on the bridge, visitors typically find street parking or utilize public parking areas in the surrounding neighborhoods of New London and Groton, then walk to the access points.

How accessible is the Gold Star Memorial Bridge via public transport?

What are the best viewpoints or natural features to look out for when crossing the bridge?

The bridge itself offers panoramic views of the Thames River, the New London harbor, and the surrounding coastline. From the path, you can observe maritime activity, including commercial vessels and recreational boats. Depending on the season, you might also spot various bird species. The sheer scale of the bridge's engineering is also a significant feature to appreciate.

While the bridge itself is a linear path, it serves as an excellent starting point for longer circular routes. You can combine a walk across the bridge with explorations of the waterfront areas in New London or Groton, or connect to nearby parks and trails. Given the bridge's exposed nature, it's recommended to dress in layers, even on mild days, as wind can be a significant factor. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. In cooler weather, a windproof jacket, hat, and gloves are advisable. On sunny days, sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended due to the lack of shade on the bridge.
