In 1912, Karel Alexander Devis built on a 4.5 hectare site
site in the Waerborreveld a large cottage. The villa with
castle allures was surrounded by a 'pleasure garden'.
The domain had all the components of a traditional one
country estate from the beginning of the 20th century: service building
such as a porter's lodge and gardener's house included
garages, a vegetable garden with greenhouses and orchard.
Both the romantic style of the buildings and that of
the park are typical of the taste and way of life of
the bourgeoisie in the period around the First World War.
The park, which consists of a large open grass area surrounding
surrounded by a belt of dense plantings, is especially
interesting because of its unique collection of trees. A
inventory from 1996 mentions no less than 123 different
loin species and varieties. Quite a few of these trees
are exceptional due to their size and/or their rare
    solitude.
Most likely the collection is the work of two or
even three generations of collectors. Also then owner
to Devis brought back exotic species from his travels.
In 1966 the Devis family transferred its property (castle and
park) to the municipality of Asse. Due to the construction of the
Parklaan, the vegetable garden with greenhouses disappeared. The castle
became a restaurant and the park was provided with paths and
    play areas.
The Waalborre Park was protected as a village area in 2000.
