Friedrichsdorf looks back on an eventful economic history, which was determined in its beginnings by the Huguenots and their spirit of work.

It was the French religious refugees who brought new crafts with them to the predominantly agricultural Landgraviate of Hesse-Homburg. They initially produced linen and stockings, later primarily flannel, which they sold primarily to Holland. The dyeing of wool and fabrics was also very important. The small dye houses lined up along Hugenottenstrasse bear witness to this.

During the economic boom in the 19th century, many medium-sized family businesses emerged. They produced hats, pasta and leather with great success. However, Friedrichsdorf became world famous for its rusks. As early as the 1920s, the Friedrichsdorf bakers only baked fine rusks, which were served as biscuits or eaten for breakfast. Around 1900, more than a dozen rusk bakeries produced the sweet dish, which was exported all over the world.

Friedrichsdorf, the town of rusks, as you can see at the roundabout at Taunus Carré.
