Thailand and the resort town have enjoyed friendly ties since King Chulalongkorn of Siam found convalescence in Homburg more than 100 years ago. As a thank you, the king gave the spa town a magnificently designed Thai sala, which today stands in the upper part of the spa park. Around 100 years later, a second one was added as a friendship gift from King Bhumibol, which can be found in the so-called salt ground in the northern part of the park.

The Thai Sala in the Park (also Siamese Temple) is one of two Thai Salas in the spa town. Both salas stand for the more than 100-year connection between Bad Homburg and the Thai royal family. King Rama V, also known as King Chulalongkorn, spent several weeks relaxing in the resort town in 1904. To the delight of the visit, Bad Homburg gave him the inauguration of a spring that had previously been drilled and named after him. King Chulalongkorn thanked him with a temple-like building covered with gold leaf, which was to serve as a canopy for the spring. The inauguration itself took place in 1914 without King Chulalongkorn, who died in 1910. In order to comply with the guidelines of the spa park creator Peter Josef Lenné, the first Thai Sala was not built at the source, but at its current position in the northwestern part of the spa park. Apart from Thailand itself, Bad Homburg is the only city with two Thai salas.
