On the site of the Aalen Archaeological Park you can still easily imagine the dimensions of a Roman Limes fort, although today only a third of the former fort area can still be seen.

The equestrian fort of the ALA II FLAVIA MILIARIA PIA FIDELIS, with an area of around six hectares, was the largest of its kind north of the Alps and at the same time the headquarters of the military administration of the Rhaetian Limes section.

The fort was built in 160 AD. The force consisted of around 1,000 mounted soldiers and 1,200 to 2,000 horses.

Today the foundations of the monumental staff building can still be seen in the Archaeological Park.
