If you are looking for a mysterious and intriguing site to visit, you can go see the Maizeret Scriptures in the village of Maizeret. This is a series of Roman inscriptions consisting mainly of I and V (1 and 5 in Roman numerals) which were discovered in the 1950s at the base of a rock. The significance of these writings is still unknown and the site is largely abandoned and overgrown. The seven main groups of inscriptions are visible behind metal grilles and one wonders what they could possibly represent. The Maizeret Scriptures are a unique and mysterious attraction that will awaken your curiosity and imagination.

In those rocks you will find mysterious inscriptions that were once cut out. The inscriptions are protected with metal grids. These carvings were discovered in 1952 when clearing large boulders, they were described in the Journal of Natural Sciences.

The meaning of the inscriptions could never be ascertained, but the same inscriptions were discovered in other rocks somewhere far from here in Spain.

      . After the 50s

these engraved rocks were not studied further and their significance remains a

puzzle. Several theories have been put forward: the engravings

could be an old cipher or a calendar. According to a more plausible

Theoretically, the signs would be a kind of accounting system by which the

ordered volumes of boulders were tracked. Thus, the characters would be a

register that recorded orders and that could be consulted by the customer, the

      stonecutter and the transporter.
