Gallox Bridge is a fine example of a medieval packhorse bridge. First mentioned in a document of 1475, the bridge was used to transport wool across the River Avill to sell in the market town of Dunster. Wool was England’s chief export In the Middle Ages and a major source of the country’s wealth.
