A two loop walk around the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. Cool Dudes' compact camera used could not compete with the metre length lens of the dedicated bird watcher.

Doddington to Harby

This is a short walk with easy route finding. The path out to Harby is a village to village route. The return is on the cycle path laid on the track bed of Lincoln to Chesterfield line. Opened in 1896 by the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway (LD&ECR) to…

Colsterworth, the Withams and Gunby

The May 2026 edition of Country Walking published the route, listing it as 8.5 miles. The big plus of this walk is the start from, and finish at, the National Trust's Woolsthorpe Manor. The going was difficult in places as fields were freshly tilled and sown. These cross field paths…

Amble from Dunston

A short walk organised by the Lincoln group of the Ramblers Association. The route passes through Dunston. The church has the tomb of Viscount Goderich, the third shortest serving Prime Minister. At 144 days it is still three times longer than Liz Truss!

Red Hill

Good walk on a bright day. The turn off from the Bluestone Heath road in marked on an Ordnance Survey map as a right of way, but is not recorded by the County Council.
The section of the Viking way from Sand Lane to Goulsby cemetery takes a meandering route…

RSPB Frampton Marsh

A walk around RSPB reserve at Frampton Marsh where skies don't come any bigger. The big window of the café at the visitor centre makes it possible to sit inside with a tea, or coffee, and birdwatch in comfort.
As tempting as it is don't stay in the café, do…

A bright day and an easy walk on the near empty beach. With a low tide much of the Norfolk side was visible. Not a fast walk with many stops to watch the birds and ships in The Wash

Winter Walk in Hartsholme Park

The Cool_Dudes wrapped up against the cold to take a walk in the park. The park's trees gave shelter from the east wind. This made for a calming walk in the grey January light. At the far end of the Swanholme reserve birdsong covered the distant urban noise of Tritton…

Brinkhill, New Year's Eve

A short walk on a bright, cold, New Year's Eve. The signboard at start and finish lists events from the history of the village, more than in Wikipedia. It shows the truth of where there are people, there is history.

Sudbrooke, Reconnaissance II

A walk through little Texas. Pevsner describes Sudbrooke as an American style garden suburb, The route passes two oil fields with their "nodding donkey" pumps. We even saw a cowboy, someone on horseback wearing chaps and guiding cattle. Yee-ha!
The farms on the way are agri-industrial, landscape flat. A contrast…
