RSPB Frampton Marsh

A walk around RSPB reserve at Frampton Marsh where skies don't come any bigger. The big window of the café at the visitor centre makes it possible to sit inside with a tea, or coffee, and birdwatch in comfort. As tempting as it is don't stay in the café, do get out and walk the firm paths in the reserve. Climb the sea bank to look over the expanse of marsh. From the bank top it feels like a walk on the edge of the world.

Gibralter Point

A bright day and an easy walk on the near empty beach. With a low tide much of the Norfolk side was visible. Not a fast walk with many stops to watch the birds and ships in The Wash

Winter Walk in Hartsholme Park

The Cool_Dudes wrapped up against the cold to take a walk in the park. The park's trees gave shelter from the east wind. This made for a calming walk in the grey January light. At the far end of the Swanholme reserve birdsong covered the distant urban noise of Tritton Road.

Ramblers' Urban Amble

A walk with variety; South Common, riverside, the Viking Way on the Cliff's edge. I wanted to take photos of this urban amble but it was too cold to take my mitts off. The highlights posted to Komoot give a flavour of the route

Brinkhill, New Year's Eve

A short walk on a bright, cold, New Year's Eve. The signboard at start and finish lists events from the history of the village, more than in Wikipedia. It shows the truth of where there are people, there is history.

Burton Waters

This was a walk along the the drains and waterways west of Lincoln on damp December day, This made the pre-Christmas lunch with the Ramblers more inviting, sitting inside in the warm. Not a challenging walk, except when crossing the A57. Fortunately drivers stopped allowing the small group to cross safely.

Sudbrooke, Reconnaissance II

A walk through little Texas. Pevsner describes Sudbrooke as an American style garden suburb, The route passes two oil fields with their "nodding donkey" pumps. We even saw a cowboy, someone on horseback wearing chaps and guiding cattle. Yee-ha! The farms on the way are agri-industrial, landscape flat. A contrast to the rolling hills of the Wolds

Remembrance Sunday

In 1629 parishioners of Bassingham asked for enclosure of the parish. They wanted a shorter route to the Fen pastures. The open fields blocked the way causing a six mile journey for their animals. Paths on the fen are ways I would not normally walk. On this mild bright autumn morning I walked, with Ms Cool_Dude, across Bassingham Fen surveying rights of way for the county council, treading paths new to us.

A Ramblers walk on a glorious autumn day. Through the woods and over the rise before the Witham valley. Crossing Branston Top gave views of the cathedral and the distant Wolds. The walk ended at the village hall with an excellent, and plentiful, lunch before the business of the annual general meeting.

Fungi at Whisby

A morning walk before arrival of storm Amy. I expected lots of acorns and berries. The wealth of fungi was not. Fungi, big, small, red, pink, brown and white. All that and a tree, an Ent, escaped from Middle Earth.
