The Ziegeltor tower was built in the 14th century. The tower was then located on the outer ring of the city fortifications.

Road cycling
The tower was built in the 13th century and was originally called „Äußeres Hasslauer Tor“.
It is a shell tower, closed on the side facing the city with wooden cladding. The gate was equipped with a portcullis and secured the outer ring of fortifications to the Hanau and Mainz area beyond the Kinzig. Inside the gate arch, painted frescoes from the 16th century could still be detected – Jesus on the cross with Mary and John. Unfortunately, they were painted over in 1995!
