Hiking

The modest shepherd's cottage was originally the home of the Beuren shepherd, who from here led the cattle to pasture in the Gunzenbachtal and the Black Forest. In the 19th century it gained fame thanks to the future German Emperor Wilhelm I and his wife Augusta. They stopped here on walks along Lichtentaler Allee and to Lichtenthal Monastery. In 1859, Wilhelm bought the house, near which a failed assassination attempt on the king took place in 1861, from a farmer for 2,000 guilders. The building has been owned by the city of Baden-Baden since 1893.
