The Marschiertor, also known as the Miesier Gate or Berseter Tor or Burtscheider Tor until the 17th century, was the southern gate of the outer Aachen city wall. It is one of the most powerful surviving city gates in Western Europe. Wikipedia

The Marschiertor is built as a double-towered gatehouse. The two towers are four-storey, the central building five-storey. The towers and central building form a unit with a common pointed tent roof. The gate is 23.8 metres wide in total, and its passage width is 4.8 metres. The field-side portal has three staggered portal arches. The outer round arch reaches up to a height of around 13 metres on the second floor, the next with a defensive platform up to a height of around 8.5 metres on the first floor. The actual pointed-arch portal is five metres high including the vault.

Spiral staircases lead through the two round towers flanking the square central building on the city side into the weapons hall. The guard rooms were on the ground floor of the towers, and the dungeons were below. There is an external toilet bay on the east tower. Like all Aachen city gates - except the Junkerstor (Vaalser Tor) - the Marschiertor originally had a foregate in the southwest that was similar to the foregate of the Ponttor that still exists today. It was demolished in the 17th century (probably shortly after the city fire) to make way for more modern fortifications. A section of a painting by Johann Ferdinand Jansen shows the gate in 1796 without a foregate.
