The Katschhof is a centrally located, public square in Aachen's old town. The name derives from Kaxhoff, later Kackshoff or, according to Oppenhoff, from Katzhoff and thus designates the location of the former pillory (Katz, Kaks). Between 1847 and 1902 the Katschhof was named in honor of the mayor of Aachen, Gerhard Chorus, Chorusplatz, after which the old historical name followed and the leading street was named Knight-Chorus-Straße instead. Due to its location between Aachen Cathedral and Aachen Town Hall and the building, which is based on a medieval floor plan, it exudes a special atmosphere. Larger events such as concerts, weekly markets, city festivals and the annual Aachen Christmas market take place here.

Located between Aachen Cathedral and the historic town hall, the Katschhof is the venue for large secular and religious events. In addition to concerts and the Christmas market, open-air services also take place here, for example on the occasion of the shrine pilgrimage, as is now taking place in June 2023.

You gotta stop here and take pictures of the cathedral for sure, there are plenty of bakeries and ice cream stores when you can take a well deserved break.
