The Pader is the namesake of the city of Paderborn and, at just four kilometers, the shortest river in Germany. The special feature of this river is that it is fed from 200 sources in the city of Paderborn. Most of the water, however, comes from the six main spring pools located near the city center. The Warme Pader, Dammpader, Börnepader, Rothobornpader, Dielenpader, Maspernpader and the Augenquelle are all walled and supply the Pader with fresh water.

An impressive 4,300 liters of water leave the city center every second, making the numerous arms of the river one of the most pouring springs in Germany. This amount of water drove numerous mills in Paderborn's history and was the energy source for bread and the well-known Paderborn beer. Today, the source area in the city center is the green lung for residents and visitors of the city and serves as a popular destination. The wide range of gastronomy with numerous beer gardens, cafés and restaurants is a meeting place for food and culture.
