The center of the village is the church of St. Nikolai. Inside it impresses with the richly decorated altar, the pews with the carved figures, a confessional box rare for Protestant churches and the ceiling painted with stars, which is reminiscent of a ship's hull. Heinrich Sengelmann, the founder of the Alsterdorf institutions, is buried in the church cemetery. As a pastor in Moorfleet, he opened an innovative school for poor children as early as 1850. The community center is located in a historic half-timbered house with a gigantic thatched roof barn.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Nicholas in Hamburg-Moorfleet, on the southern edge of the district on Moorfleeter Kirchenweg, is the westernmost church in the marshlands. It is, on the one hand, a typical half-timbered hall church of the Vier- and Marschlande districts, but, on the other hand, with its characteristic neo-Gothic tower, it shows strong influences from the nearby center of Hamburg.

A church bearing the name St. Nicholas was already mentioned in 1331 in a document, a so-called bell certificate, concerning the replacement of bells for churches in the marshlands. All that is known about this medieval church in the place then called Murenflet is that it was expanded in 1578 and equipped with a new wooden bell tower in 1599. Severe storm damage in 1648 led to plans for a new building. The current nave was built in 1680 under the direction of Lorenz Dohmsen around the old nave, which was then demolished.

The foundation stone for the new church was laid on August 3, 1680, and it was consecrated on December 10 of the same year. In 1705, the gallery was added to the church interior. The first major repairs were necessitated by the major dike breach in the marshlands in 1771, and a comprehensive renovation took place in 1843. In 1866, the church received the windows that are still present today.

The most noticeable change after the construction of the nave occurred in 1885.
The wooden church tower, whose spire was barely higher than the ridge of the nave,
was replaced by the 50-meter-high neo-Gothic tower with a striking copper-covered spire. This makes St. Nicholas's Church clearly visible from the major A1 highway in the area of the Hamburg-Southeast motorway junction.
