The Amsterdam Fortress in the north of the island of Ambon dates back to a wooden building of the Dutch East India Company from 1637. A Portuguese trading hut had previously stood at the site since 1512. After in the 17th century. When the Dutch colonized the island of Ambon, the hut was converted into a defensive post and was named Fort Amsterdam.
The fortress was built at the end of the 20th century. Restored by the Indonesian government based on an old photo of the facility.
