Fort Kastela is a ruined Portuguese fortress on the southwest coast of Ternate. It is the first fortress built in 1522 to secure trade in the Spice Islands (Maluku) of Indonesia.
After the Portuguese killed Sultan Hairun of Ternate in 1570, they were besieged in their fortress for five years by troops of the new Sultan Babullah. In 1575 the Portuguese surrendered the fortress and retreated to Ambon.
