The castle was built between 1828 and 1873 in the style of British castles by the princes of Leiningen, who are still remotely related to the British royal family. It served as a hunting lodge in the middle of a game park. During the Second World War, the castle was used as a military hospital and later converted into a psychosomatic clinic, which is now run by the Princely House as a private company.
