Vilshofen lies on the right bank of the Danube and thus on the opposite bank to the Danube Panorama Trail. In spite of everything worth the detour over the river, because Vilshofen not only lures with a very cozy old town. Large and small churches, three museums and a cloister provide for cultural change, while the cafes, brewpubs and restaurants take care of your culinary needs.

The town of Vilshofen an der Donau lies on the edge of the southern Bavarian Forest, where Vils and Wolfach flow into the Danube. The old town is built close to the water, on a pointed headland between the Danube and Vils and appears to the visitor from the opposite bank like an island floating on the river. The impressive double-towered monastery building of the Benedictine Schweiklberg Abbey towers above it.
