As early as 1120 a castle was built on the promising knoll above the Wolfach, and for almost 700 years the castle was the residence of the Counts of Ortenburg. Its appearance today reflects the state of construction in the 16th century. Today the very well renovated complex houses a museum and a restaurant and events take place regularly.
