Based on the theme "beer, the Limburger and cheerfulness", the artist Bert van Loo discussed the character traits of the Limburger, as experienced by him. The cheerful, sociable, beer-drinking, but also the putting into perspective, pious and a bit arrogant Limburger can be seen in it.
The statue was donated in 1975 by the Gulpener Bierbrouwerij on the occasion of their 150th anniversary.
Bert van Loo was born in Gulpen (1946 - 2016) who lived and worked in Amsterdam from the age of 22. He also enjoys international fame as a glass artist.
