Postwege - Royal Roads of Saxony

The Kursächsische Postsäulen are historic stone pillars built in the 1700s throughout Saxony to measure distances and mark postal routes. They were built by Saxony's ruler August the Strong in the style of the ancient Romans.

This Viertelmeilenstein (quarter-mile marker) No. 9 from 1727 was erected in June 2022. It is located by the Elbe river ferry because the original postal route crossed the ferry here since the Pirna bridge wasn't built until 1875. The original stone existed until the 19th century and this replica is modeled after Viertelmeilenstein No. 9 of the Alte Dresden-Teplitzer Poststraße.
