Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)
The old railway embankment of the Weißig-Bühlau - Dürrröhrsdorf railway line operated from 1908 to 1951.
The route along the Old Railway Embankment, which is almost flat due to the typical railway parameters, which is signposted in Dresden as the "Schönfeld Highland Cycle Path", leads from the Dresdner Heide to the city limits in Wünschendorf (highlighted here) and on to Porschendorf and Dürrröhrsdorf.
Information boards along the route provide an insight into the eventful history of the railway route.
The former train stations and stops have received their station signs back. Hiking rest areas invite you to linger. Along the route there are typical railway signs and accessories to explore.

The "Schönfelder Hochland" cycle path leads along the old embankment of the Weißig-Bühlau-Dürrröhrsdorf railway line, which was operated between 1908 and 1951, and represents a section of the main regional cycle route Dresden-Bastei.
The Schönfeld highlands offer numerous beautiful natural spaces and sights, which are good conditions for cycling tourism. Furthermore, the cycle path acts as a good connection between the individual villages for everyday cycling.
Due to the railway line, the bike path is very flat with slight climbs. The cycle path leads with a uniform signposting "Cycle Path Schönfelder Hochland" from the Dresdner Heide via the localities Weißig, Cunnersdorf, Schönfeld, Schullwitz and Eschdorf to Wünschendorf, whereby the cycle path continues after a short street passage from Wünschendorf via Porschendorf to Dürrröhrsdorf.
Along the way numerous information boards, station signs at the site of the former stations, signs and signals typical for railways as well as rest areas, especially for hikers, have been set up .¹

I ask other cyclists / hikers to add photos to the highlight.
Note: I am aware that there are already some highlights regarding the old railway embankment. Unfortunately, those don't include the full route, which is why I decided to create one myself with the entire route.

Old embankment, section between Schönfeld and Wünschdorf. Good asphalt throughout, paving stone was only laid on the driveways. Relaxed car-free driving through beautiful nature :-)

For me, the "old railway embankment" is one of the highlights for relaxed bike tours. Shallow up and down passages and a beautiful landscape make the cyclist's heart beat faster. Anyone who has made the journey from the Elbe Valley gets their wages here.
It's a shame that the cycle path in Schönfeld is briefly interrupted. This is not a broken leg, and therefore does not make the path any worse. The bypass is well signposted. A short detour takes you to Schönfeld Castle. There is ice there :-)
In Eschdorf it goes downhill for a long time until you have to turn onto the main road in Wünschendorf. Here the embankment is interrupted a second time. However, on the opposite side of the street you can still see where the railway line ran.
I think it's a shame that the bike path is interrupted again here. But there will be reasons that I don't know.
