The Kursächsische Postsäulen are historic stone pillars built in the 1700s throughout Saxony to measure distances and mark postal routes. They were built by Saxony's ruler August the Strong in the style of the ancient Romans.
Here is a 1732 Viertelmeilenstein (quarter-mile marker) No. 15 along the Alten Dresden-Teplitzer Poststraße, situated on a private property. In 1955, the stone was cleaned of graffiti and scratches and returned to its original position perpendicular to the road. Following damage from a traffic accident in 1978, another round of restoration took place.
