“Auf dem Lohrain” is a sub-area of the FFH area “Basalt lean grassland on the edge of the Wetterau dry island”. It covers an area of 9.80 hectares in which three habitat types occur: sub-Mediterranean semi-dry grasslands, species-rich montane bristlegrass grasslands and poor lowland hay meadows.

The area was cleared of bushes and the poor grassland was exposed again in order to preserve the open landscape. The LIFE+Project Wetterauer Hutungen has set itself the goal of preserving and developing the Hutungen. These are poor, traditionally sheep-grazed areas where various forms of poor grassland can often be found. These are characterized by a special diversity of species.
