The remarkable shrine is a symbol of gratitude and Christian faith that reflects the history and challenges of the community in relation to the flooding in August 2005. It also reminds people of the importance of respecting the natural environment and protecting themselves from the dangers of flooding. At that time, around 30 houses in Pflach were flooded to a height of up to 3.5 meters within 10 minutes. Since then, the federal and state governments have invested over eight million euros in flood protection for the community of Pflach.
