East of Reutte, the fortress complex of the Ehrenberg castle and fortress ensemble rises mightily and impregnable.
The Ehrenberg castle ensemble
The Schlosskkopf show fortress towers high above the Außerfern. Every traveler and hiker is impressed by the long, massive walls that were once bulwarks against military attacks.
In the Middle Ages, the Ehrenberg hermitage was hotly contested, as the most important trade route between north and south passed through it. The massive walls suggest that the roar of cannons and war cries could often be heard in front of Ehrenberg Castle.

The fortress Schlosskopf, formerly fortress Schloßkopf, is located at about 1250 m above the Ehrenberg Castle and the market Reutte in Außerfern in Tyrol. The castle and fortress together with the associated hermitage and the fort Claudia (Hochschanz) form one of the most important fortress ensembles in Central Europe.
