During WWII, four sons of the family Leonard Vandevenne and Jozefine Claes were in the Belgian army. At the outbreak of the war, they had promised to build a chapel if their four sons could return safely. On April 27, 1941, the last of their sons returned after eleven months of captivity in Germany, whereupon the chapel was built on their property.
