The observatory was built between 1424 and 1428 by the Timurid prince Ulug Beg for the observations of astronomers at the Ulugbek Madrasa. It was a three-story circular building 46 m in diameter and 30 m high. Today all you can find there are the ruins of the observatory and a museum.
