If the visibility is good, a short photo stop is definitely recommended, with lots of panorama all around...

Great distant view up to the Dreiborner height.

A wonderful view is offered here on the edge of the village of Dreiborn on the Dreiborn plateau 567 meters above sea level. The view extends far in a south-easterly direction to the peaks of the Vulkaneifel.

The castle "Troys Fontainez" (= Dreiborn = "three sources") was mentioned for the first time in 1334. At that time, Count Wilhelm V von Jülich took it as a fief from King John of Bohemia from the House of Luxembourg.

The Dreiborn moated castle is at an altitude of 540 meters above sea level, the highest in the Rhineland. In its 700-year history, golden times and dire devastation have alternated. The consequences were repeated alterations and demolitions, so that only a few parts of the building and castle towers of the earlier imposing complex have been preserved for posterity. More than 250 years ago, the Dreiborn moated castle was surrounded by splendid rococo-style gardens.
