Friedrich Heinrich, the last Margrave of Schwedt, had an operetta theater built in the orangery of Schwedt Castle in the 18th century, which was known far beyond the borders. With the industrial development of the city, the theater tradition in Schwedt was revived at the end of the 1970s. The Kulturhaus Schwedt, the building of today's Uckermärkische Bühnen, was built in 1978 on the site of the former margrave's castle.
