Cistercian monastery founded in the 13th century. Mysticism and worship played an important role in this order. Economic problems were frequent and in 1420 the plague reduced the number of inhabitants from seventy to eighteen. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery became Protestant. A looting during the Thirty Years' War then led to the abandonment of the monastery. Today it is managed by the monastery chamber of Hanover as a monastery property.
The place seems a bit sleepy and melancholic. The small cemetery above the church tells a few stories. A pilgrimage route including a stamping point leads through the monastery.
