Mainz Electoral Cycle
These are relief battlements from the former department store on the fire. These show the patron saint of Mainz, St. Martin on horseback, the Roman-German King Ludwig the Bavarian and the seven electors (the archbishops of Mainz, Cologne, Trier, the King of Bohemia, the Count Palatine of the Rhine, the Duke of Saxony and the margrave of Brandenburg). The sandstone reliefs belong to the oldest collection of the Landesmuseum Mainz. After the early Gothic department store near the fire was damaged during the siege of Mainz (1793), the building was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century, whereby the relief paintings were previously salvaged.
