In the small community of Ane, lies the hamlet called 'England,' where the England Forest of Varel can be found. This original forest was located around the Korrelbelt, a high sand ridge located along the former course of the Vecht river. Archaeological excavations in the Korrelbelt, mainly carried out by local farmers and residents, have revealed fascinating finds, including a stone hammer and chisel. These finds indicate that human habitation on these elevated sites must have already taken place in prehistoric times.
