According to a legend about Berlaar's origins, St. Peter's Church owes its location to two fighting bears. As a result, the church is not located in the center, as was often the custom, but at the far end of the village square. This church was therefore conspicuous from the very beginning, making it an indispensable part of Berlaar's village skyline. In 2019, the local government decided to give the church a thorough renovation, which was completed in the spring of 2022.
