The Erzhausen pumped storage power plant is located in the municipality of Erzhausen, a district of the city of Einbeck between Hanover and Göttingen in Lower Saxony.

It was put into operation in 1964 after a ten-year construction phase by PreussenElektra, later E.ON, and was completely renovated in 1998. Statkraft took over the plant at the beginning of 2009.

The power plant has an installed capacity of 220 MW. Annual electricity production is variable and depends on electricity demand.

Pumped storage power plants use water as a storage medium for electricity that is otherwise difficult to store. They are considered the "sprinters" among power plants, as full power is available within 59 seconds at the push of a button.
