Swing Bridge at the Winter Harbor (1877) - Mainz 🚴♂️
The swing bridge at the Winter Harbor in Mainz was built around 1877, making it one of the oldest surviving swing bridges. It crosses the Winter Harbor and serves as a link between the old town and the pier on the Victor Hugo Ufer with the new marina.Twelve years after the Winter Harbor opened in 1865, the swing bridge allowed ships to pass through at any water level. The mechanical rotating mechanism of the old bridge at the Winter Harbor had been out of service since 1996 and was replaced by a hydraulic mechanism in 2009. The new steel structure bridge was installed in 2009. Thus, the appearance of the new bridge has been largely adapted to that of the old bridge. The structure is a listed building and is considered a cultural monument.Type: Steel swing bridge
