The swing bridge at the winter harbor in Mainz was built around 1877 and is therefore one of the oldest surviving swing bridges. It crosses the winter harbor and serves as a link between the old town and the pier on the Victor Hugo shore with the new marina.
Twelve years after the opening of the winter port in 1865, the swing bridge enabled a ship passage at any water level. The mechanical turning device of the old bridge at the winter port had been out of order since 1996 and was replaced by a hydraulic device in 2009. The new steel construction bridge was installed in 2009. Thus, the appearance of the new bridge has largely been adapted to that of the old bridge. The object is a listed building and is considered a cultural monument.
    Type: steel turning bridge
    Construction time: 1877 + 2009
    Total length: 37.50 m
    Width: 4.50 m
    Headroom ship: no limit
