Tips

St Martha’s Church is a beautiful church perched on the top of a hill. Only accessible by foot, the Grade II-listed church affords breathtaking views and a real sense of tranquility. A 12th-century church existed at this location before falling into ruin by the 18th century. The church was rebuilt in 1848 and many of the original 12th-century architectural features were retained.

If walking with children, it is great to combine this with a visit to the many streams of the Chilworth gunpowder mill site.

Very peaceful up on the top of this hill with this historic church. There are multiple benches where you can sit and catch your breath and enjoy the peace and quiet and beautiful views.

There is sometimes a small kiosk selling cakes and tea that take donations for the church. Usually from 1 pm
