Since 1997 it has been the seat of the Templar Order OMTH, one of several successor organizations to the legendary Templar Order, which was dissolved in 1312. The OMTH is The New Knighthood of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The task of the Karlstadt Templars is to run their religious house, the Arche, as a hospice for pilgrims and travelers.
