The City of Trieste commissioned the Soldier with Flag Statue in the Port of Trieste.
The statue was erected as part of a project to commemorate the soldiers and the city's historical significance.
The statue depicts an infantryman of the Italian Army climbing a staircase, commemorating the arrival of these troops on November 3, 1918.
The statue was inaugurated in 2004 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Trieste's return to Italy.
