The Monumento all'Imperatore Massimiliano I was until 2009 in the Parco di Miramara at «his» castle. The inscriptions are exclusively Italian.

It was commissioned and directed by Baron Pasquale Revoltella by the sculptor Johannes Schilling, inaugurated in 1875 by a committee in Piazza Giuseppina (now Piazza Venezia) in Trieste and later moved to the castle park. The bronze statue, over 9 meters high, shows Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian wearing a vice admiral's uniform. His eyes and his hand were directed to Miramare Castle. The statue stands on a pedestal adorned with allegorical figures and reliefs. They symbolize the power of the House of Habsburg and the philanthropy of Maximilian and his interest in science and art.
