The eventful history of Reichenberg CastleIt all begins here, on the Reichenberg estate, "German mountain of wealth", when in 1256, the grandson of the Duke of Lorraine had a fortified castle built. From the top of his fortress, he watches over the silver mines acquired by his grandfather. The following centuries were punctuated by multiple succession quarrels until the castle was burned down during the Peasants' War in 1525. A period of oblivion followed where the building remained in a state of ruin. During the Revolution, the castle was even used as a quarry, its stones being used to build some of the terraces of the Bergheim vineyard. From 1871, three successive owners who fell in love with the place began reconstruction. Even today, the current owner is passionate about this business.
