Nice view from here on the Untereider. The Untereider begins as a still water in Rendsburg. The other part of the Eider from the source to Rendsburg is called Obereider.
Rendsburg and the Eider are firmly connected. The river can not be called without the city and Rendsburg not without the Eider. Through the construction of the Kiel Canal, there were drastic changes that affected both the city and the surrounding nature. So the connection was cut from the upper to the Untereider and the Untereider needs from here a little distance, in order to win at drive or at river. But the course of the Untereider offers secluded places and a beautiful green oasis in this small town.A waters can hardly be more diverse: The Eider is with almost 200 kilometers Schleswig-Holstein's longest river, sometimes narrow and idyllic, sometimes developed into a waterway for giant ships - as the Kiel Canal. For many, the Eider begins only in Rendsburg, because to their upper reaches, they have no direct connection. In fact, the source area of the Eider, however, lies south of Kiel. In many turns, the Obereider meanders - as she is called here - sometimes to the west, sometimes to the north.
