There was originally a Romanesque castle chapel from 1171 here. The west tower dates from 1649 and still contains remains of the Romanesque substructure. The two western bays of this brick hall church were built in 1769 in the classicist style. The two eastern bays and the choir date from 1850. In 1938, sakrten were built both north and south of the church and in 1937 side chapels were built.

In 1965 the church was largely destroyed and a large part of the inventory was lost. However, the building was restored immediately after the fire. The interior was renovated, including murals by R. van de Eycken.

The art objects still include a wooden Our Lady and Child from the 16th century and a wooden crucifix from the 18th century.

Some grave crosses from the 17th century were built into the cemetery wall.
