The history of the blue bridge as the Eider Bridge on the Eidertal hiking trail goes back to 1865. In that year, the Bordesholm Office and Itzehoe Monastery commissioned the construction of a footbridge over the Eider.
However, it did not get its blue paintwork and thus the name of this Eider Bridge until 1992.
