The Freudenburg towers above Freudenberg. To the left and right of the Freudenburg, a fortification wall runs down to the old town of Freudenberg. Part of the old city wall can still be seen in Freudenberg itself - south of the Main Bridge. New and old buildings merge there - although perhaps not quite as architecturally successful.

The core city of Freudenberg looks back on almost 800 years of history; its origins go back to the territorial disputes between the dioceses of Mainz and Würzburg. The core of Freudenberg's urban historical development is the construction of a castle complex, the Freudenburg, on the mountain above the city. The early settlement of people below the Freudenburg gave rise to the town of Freudenberg, which was first mentioned as a town in 1287 and received town rights from the hands of Ludwig the Bavarian in 1333.

Nice on the promenade with the old houses in the background. Delicious ice cream is also available in summer.
